Energy Efficiency Tax Credits
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022 was designed to make energy-efficient upgrades more affordable for American families and businesses. This historic bill introduces new tax credits and rebate programs to help Vermont and New Hampshire homeowners save on home performance improvements. Here’s what you need to know:
25C Tax Credit for Insulation and Efficiency Improvements
Save up to 30% of the cost of energy-efficient home improvements with the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, sometimes known as the 25C tax credit. This tax credit is available annually from 2022 to 2032, with a combined annual limit of $1,200 for the category of home upgrades that includes insulation and air sealing services. To claim your tax credit, simply file IRS Form 5695 with your annual tax return. Eligible improvements include:
- Energy Audits ($150 maximum credit)
- Insulation Services (excludes on-site labor costs)
- Air Sealing (excludes on-site labor costs)
Inflation Reduction Act Rebates
The IRA also created two new rebate programs:
- Home Owner Managing Energy Savings (HOMES)
- High-Efficiency Electric Homes Rebates
These rebates can be applied to a variety of energy-efficient home improvements, including insulation and air sealing. At Vermont Foam Insulation, we’re closely monitoring updates and will provide announcements as soon as these IRA rebates become available to Vermont and New Hampshire homeowners.
