Inflation Reduction Act Incentives
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) 2022 bill was created to lower the cost of energy efficient upgrades to make them more accessible for American families and businesses. Within the IRA are several new tax credits and rebates on home performance services that are available to Vermont and New Hampshire homeowners. Here are the details:
Energy Efficiency Tax Credits
Save up to 30% of the total cost of energy efficient home improvements with the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit. This IRA tax credit can be claimed multiple years in a row, from 2022-2032, and has a $1,200 combined annual limit. To claim the Energy Efficient Home Improvement tax credit, homeowners can file IRS Form 5695 with their annual tax returns. The list of eligible services includes:
- Energy Audits ($150 maximum credit)
- Insulation Services (excludes on-site labor costs)
- Air Sealing (excludes on-site labor costs)
Inflation Reduction Act Rebates
The Inflation Reduction Act also created two new rebate programs for a variety of energy efficiency home improvements, like insulation and air sealing. The Home Owner Managing Energy Savings (HOMES) and High-Efficiency Electric Homes rebates are not expected to be redeemable until late 2023 or early 2024. Vermont Foam Insulation is keeping a close watch on updates, and we will make an announcement as soon as we know when IRA rebates will be available in Vermont and New Hampshire.
